i dont believe they opened them up at all! i think it was just a case of leaving the flter element in there, a little like plug and play!

i think that dictates that with the power off the valve the timing is in the starting position as if there is a fixed cam, and when there is full power on it its in full advance and the pulse width is changed that allows you to vary it as the revs go up! for ease of operation u mite as well have it ...

if you have taken your vacuum supply from the same place that rover put the take off for a vac advance dizzy, chances are you arent getting vacuum! with the su carbs (im assuming you have) the vac takeoff is often partially shrouded by the butterfly and it gets airflow past it which means u wont get...

on the back of a smiths tacho on the curcuit board there is a variable resistor that allows adjustment or what the needle reads!! mite be worth a twiddle!
