An update 8 years later!

Hi all, The mini now lives with me in Melbourne, and has had a few small modifications.. Suzuki G13b engine and box, with Modena LSD, slicks and Megasquirt! I am still using the EDIS-4 module, coil pack and VR sensor to handle the sparking though. I use it for hillclimbing, and have been winning qui...

Thanks for the kind words. After seeing some of the other posts, I thought I ought to put up a picture of the VR mount / wheel. It's the best picture I've got. I welded up the bracket from 25x25x3 steel angle, and it comes off the two through bolts of the engine mount bracket. There's no adjustment,...

Another Megajolt powered mini gets back on the road!

Here's a couple of pictures of my mini - a long time coming, but now all those years' work seem worth it!
1275 MG metro engine, Stage 3 head, MJLJ, Maniflow LCB & Playmini 2" system. Sounds great!

An old thread, but a good one.... I agree this would be an excellent addition. The VR bracket I made isn't adjustable, and after trying my best to get the angle spot on, the result is 1 degree out. Not much, but a little irritating. So, if there was even just a couple of degrees software offset adju...

Some good news!

Hi, Just thought I'd let you know that my MJLJ mini special went on the rollers last week with a tuner who hadn't used the MJLJ system before. We spent about 4 hours tweeking minor things in the engine bay, and tuning the fuelling and the ignition. I've never been to a rolling road before, and it wa...

I had similar symptoms when I was first trying to start the engine on EDIS. I found that the 2 coil trigger cables (EDIS pins 10 & 12 to coil pack connector pins 1 & 3) were the wrong way round. To try it the other way, I swapped the HT leads at the coil pack, i.e. pairs 1 and 4 swapped with...

If you've got a vacuum take off on the manifold, I'd block it up and connect to the vacuum take off on the HIF44, as it's a slightly smoother signal.

The closer you get to the cylinders the more lumpy it is.

Just been down to the garage and checked the wiring. I have Pin 8 on the EDIS connected directly to the centre pin on the coil pack (+12V), I have Pin 10 on the EDIS connected directly to Coil A's pin, and Pin 12 on the EDIS runs through the loop on the back of the Smiths Tacho, and on to Coil B's p...

I think we are missing something with this: You're right in that there are four spark events per engine rev with the EDIS, however it is only four because two spark plugs are connected to each coil. The coil only has to discharge once to give two spark events. So as far it's concerned there are just...

Brent,

All up and running fine now, thanks to Martin.

He swapped the chip to a MAX232, and it is working fine with the 1uF caps I had soldered on.

Looks like it was a dodgy ST232EBN.

Thanks for your advice, though.

I agree it is weird. I thought about it before I connected it at all, and decided that if it was going to work, both coil trigger cables between the EDIS and coil pack would have to go through, to catch all triggers, just like the old distributor cable did. I thought I had put both through and it wo...

I don't know if this helps, but I am using a Smiths Tacho which looks very similar to the one in the article, however I am running it without fault in a very simple way. The plastic insulated loop on the rear is usually for the wire from the distributor-to-coil wire to pass through. I think the Tach...

Brent, I've tried another set of caps, triple-checking the polarity with the datasheet - no change. Martin M has offered to take a look at the board for me and try to find what's wrong, so I think I'm going to have to go this route. I hope it's not me doing something stupid! I'm mechanical rather th...
