i think ive solved it! if i set the advance on the strobe to zero so it flashes on the spark (instead of using the buttons to make it flash at TDC) and then read off the value from the guage on the timing chain cover on the car, it seems to be working fine, all the values match. it now reads 5 where...

yes it is a snap on one. i dont understand why it only doubles the extra advance added by mjlj. it works fine for the standard 10 degrees. anything above 10 though and it gets doubled :?
