There are USB battery packs that feature pass through charging. The problem is that most of them only support ~1.2A output while the battery pack is on power (~2.4A when only on battery). I'm continuing to look for a unit that can provide 2-2.5A while charging in passthrough mode. Assuming I find on...

To follow up on this for, Rob, it associating again. It was on the public release 2.9.2. Changing the name and the PIN seemed to fix the problem. BTW, Rob did a slick canbus integration with the MS2/Extra (MSPNP2) that is controlling his BMW M20. He'll be doing a short video showing the wiring and t...

I was thinking of running a microPC that has no wireless capabilities. Connecting to the RCP through the USB port to get around wireless issue. Daniel, Read the rules again: Any hardware that allows a competitor or crew member to wirelessly or directly connect to the ECU (or alter ECU maps) at any ...

Here's something I'm been thinking about: A 3D printed frame for the new fire tablet, with hard mounting points that are similar to the dedicated dashboards currently seen. That could be very cool to bring the best of both together. Brent, I was thinking about this last night instead of sleeping. I...

Brilliant! I have to admit that the slick design and the fact that I don't have to manufacture the thing makes the Pressy very attractive. I'd just find a 4 connector audio extension, probably with a right angle on the phone end like this: http://www.amazon.com/Valley-4-Pole-3-5mm-Female-Stereo/dp/...

Update: Here's a $5 alternative to the Pressy linked above. This way you could use a momentary button that would hold up in a motorsports environment. http://liliputing.com/2015/09/make-diy-external-button-smartphone-5.html I was thinking I could even use the horn button on a race wheel and a relay....

BJ you must get as little sleep at night as I do. 4-5 hours is my norm. I late at night is when I do my best engineering... I dont think that any tablet or phone should replace the OEM instruments the way an AiM dash could I actually plan to do this in my M Coupe race car. I figure 99% of the time,...

So I had a thought last night: One of my original concerns about using Android as my primary dash is how do I recover if there is a problem mid race? This is an issue, because I want to have a single information display in the vehicle. This means if my dash goes down, I loose timing, temps, fuel lev...

You really don't want a resistive touch screen - they're just sad in many ways - visibility as well as responsiveness. This is very true. I used to have the Traqmate Traqdash which has a resistive screen. Readability is much better on my phone and cheap tablet. And despite the Traqdash being resist...

The tablet approach has a hidden benefit, and that's the battery, which will keep itself powered during pit stops. it's like a dashboard with a battery backup. :) Very true. There are a number of benefits to the tablet: It is easy to update, it has other uses, it is cheap, it easy to replace. I ori...

For permanent power, you could use a DC power cable, remove the male plug and wire straight into the fuse box. Could you possibly even solder the same naked wire ends onto the back of the DC (lighter) outlet? Yeah, but the kill switch in a race car would still shut off power unless I wired direct t...

A 2014 tablet should work fine. I have a super cheap Chinese tablet that runs it great. The Autosport Lab guys did a bunch of optimizations to ensure that even low spec hardware would run the app reasonably well. With the Beta's since mid-year, I've had extremely reliable connectivity. I've learned ...

The primary caveat is to secure the USB connection so the USB plug does not come loose in high vibration environments. If there is room adjacent to the USB connector on RCP, you could use a nut to secure the cable with a cable like this: http://www.keysight.com/en/pd-1688306-pn-U2921A/usb-secure-ca...
