One step forward two back. Had the mjlt running on the car checking with a digital thermomiter the temprature rise and useing the lap top to see if there was a responce to changes in advance. All was well untill I just lost coms and the thing just runs at fixed advance. Is there any one I can pay to...

By load I mean the

By load I mean the resistance between +5V and ground with U3 removed. I was unsure if there was a 5V supply to the edis unit so took the readings on the bench and again pluged into the car. So 5V and a load of 1300 ohms is .00384 Amps. Is this enough current draw on U3 for it to get hot when running...

Think I have found the

Think I have found the problem. The processor has a load of 18 ohms across the 5V and ground and the ossilator 35 ohms. Previously I had been removing the components one at a time and then checking U3 for heat not thinking the problem may have been with more than one. The load on U3 with these two r...

12 Ohms

I've got a 12 Ohms load on the 5v side with all the components instaled bar U3. first removed J1 then C2,D3,C7 but the only time the resistance went up was when the processor was removed it is now 35 Ohms. So as I look at it now the only things left conected now J1 is out are ocsilator and the RS232...

Removed the oscilator

Hi Martin thanks for your help again. Removed the oscilator, processor and the max232 chip and I still have the problem. As for the missing track haveing another look it's the track that links R1 to R10 on the outside of the board (V2) and not R2/R3 as I first thaught. Is it posable that what ever c...

U3 geting hot.

This follows on from "hiperterminal responce" but as I have moved on I have started another thread. Coming back to my still unsolved problems I am faced with another.U3 is getting to hot to touch after only a 20 or 30 seconds powered up. The oscilator is also warm and the 5v feed has drope...

LED switching OK

Finaly got hold of an LED and resietor and found the programable outputs can be programed to switch at various RPM settings. So I am now clutching at some straws. The acc reading on the runtime display jumps all over the place, does this mean anything ?(I am only using a MAP sensor no TPS) The scree...

Tried the test with the progremable outputs using a multi meter set to buzz on continuity and am not getting a clean switch at the set RPM. Will a diode and resistor behave differently? Or is this because of a poor PIP signal?

Thanks you have given me

Thanks you have given me something to try at the weekend. Not looked at the PIP because the engine runs and shows RPM on the runtime display, am I missing something? The PIP and SAW are both screened from the EDIS plug of the loom I cut out. I am in Hertford by the way.

Yes engine starts and runs with fixed advance

1 Yes engine starts and runs no problem with or without MJLT. 1a Advance with or without MJLT is a rock steady er 3 BTDC (36-1 wheel was set up on a slave engine and I put this down to key ways cut in different positions or I can't read a protractor.)I was hoping I can just add to the bin numbers to...

Only problem is no advance at low RPM and then it jumps off the scale with no adjustment on my strobe to bring it back so can you give me some idear of SAW voltag...

I am using an old laptop

I am using an old laptop with a serial port running windows 98 so no adaptors and have used the same setup on a Megasquirt install about 3 years ago.
the magajolt kit is about a year old and was purchased from Brent so I guess the chip is pre programed.
