You're not getting confused with Megasquirt are you?

That's a full ECU for ignition, fuel injectors, etc. More expensive, FAR more complicated!

Brent,

Maybe this information would be very useful in the installation guide?

Fortunately it would be quite easy to modify my supply wiring, but I'm sure that many others wouldn't be so lucky.

cheers,
David

I use one 12v supply with a 5A fuse for the lot - hasn't blown yet, and works OK.

...but, you watch, now that I've said that... :(

Sorry to divert this topic, but this might be the answer to a conundrum I had a few months ago - when I put my timing light on certain plugs I couldn't get a consistent flashes. Two were good, 2 were bad (can't remember which was which). The timing light sensor is a clip that goes around the plug le...

If your engine is anything like mine, you'll find that power just disappears when the soft-cut comes on - the engine's running, but no rpm increase.

However, if you're in this state and put your foot on the clutch then the rpm will probably rise a bit due to the lack of engine load.

One more question - it doesn't need to be screened, does it? (it's not exactly a faint and delicate signal!)

Earthing the TPS

A very quick question - one wire from the TPS goes to earth/chassis. Is it better to take this to a chassis point near to the TPS, or would it be better to use the common earth that I use for MJ, EDIS and coil?

Or doesn't it matter either way! :D

This chart was made using the open office spreadsheet, using MJ log data (not a lot of fiddling required):

Another vote for Open Office - I use it all the time, and it's free.

Brent, It looks like the distributor vacuum outlet is 'ported' - as far as I understand, it gives values almost the exact opposite of MAP (which is what I was seeing). I haven't managed to Google a good reference, but I have seen several articles that state "do not plug into the distributor vac...

Final word...

A fellow Locost builder has just installed MJ onto an engine setup very similar to mine - same engine and carb anyway. Knowing of my problems he took the vacuum off the point where the crankcase vent used to fit - and his load graph is the correct way up! So the end of the story is that my vacuum is...

Um - you probably don't need the factory dizzy!

Once you've fitted the trigger wheel, sensor and MJ control box the dizzy can be removed (or becomes redundant anyway).

That's what I thought - it didn't appear to be any sort of critical tuned circuit! :D

Many thanks.

Cheers Martin,

Just one more question - the L1, 1uH inductor for the TPS - how critical is this value? Presumably it's part of the circuitry to provide a stable reference voltage, but would a 2.2uH work OK?

It's another case of 'I can get this one easily, anything else is a bit harder'!
