I seriously doubt that you have caused any damage - I believe that the resistor is only there to provide a current-limited voltage, and you are limiting it even more! the only effect may be that it doesn't switch reliably due to the input pin getting to a state where it is neither one voltage nor th...

0.5mm is NOT concentric! If I was making a disc on my lathe I'd be trying to achieve 0.05mm, or better (0.05mm roughly equal to 1.5 thou, in inches)

Serial-USB adaptors

Brent, Just a thought - communicating with MJLT using USB-serial adaptors seems to be one of the major headaches for a new user. Had you ever thought of selling some 'known to work' models in your shop? Or posting a list of 'known to work' types on this forum? Just my 2p's worth (sorry - 2 cents' wo...

As Nat suggests, the best/cheapest knock detector is mounted between the driver's ears! There are a few suggestions here . I fitted a knock sensor salvaged from a scrapyard, connected it to an amplifier, and then drive around wearing a set of ear protection headphones. It's amazing how the brain can...

Bob, Following on from what Brent said - is it possible that you had the engine running with the battery disconnected at any time? The reason I ask is that the battery forms part of the voltage regulation circuit in a car, and you can get very high voltages with it disconnected. Just a (small) thoug...

I'd forgotten the dual map! I have my normal map for regular unleaded, and another for super unleaded (which I can't always get, or not at a sensible price anyway).

For me, the major difference was a rock-steady idle, easy starting and a lot more space on one side of the engine! The extra space was a bonus, as I later fitted a set of 4 bike carbs... :D

Most people aim for 1mm, give or take a bit. Basically, it's as close as you can manage while avoiding all risk of collision!

brent,

Any progress with this aux input stuff? Not trying to nag, but it would be really useful at the moment! :D

cheers,

As Brent says, as close to 1mm as possible. Turn the engine over by hand before starting the first time, to make sure that it's clear ALL the way round!

What are the benefits of multiple spark at lower revs? The EDIS/MJLT combination generates a pretty substantial spark in standard form!

A good starting point would be to unplug the megajolt connector (the Molex thing). If the car starts in get-you-home mode then the EDIS/trigger wheel/coil is OK, and there may be a fault with the MJ unit. If it doesn't start - well, you know what to look at! Are you sure the trigger wheel hasn't sli...

At the moment they won't talk to each other - but (allegedly ;) ) the next MJLT will take a 0 - 5v input to log alongside its own data. The JAW has a suitable output that is ideal for this purpose, so I'm keen to get the MJ unit ready. I'm not planning to do anything fancy on my dash - the car's a b...
