heres a theory for you

I take it you are using the vacuum pipe that originally linked the carb to the dizzy... Now, as you say, this vacuum point is above the throttle plates, and therefore is not seeing the same vacuum levels as the manifold... I'd suggest taking the vacuum input to the MJLJ directly from the manifold an...

Got the photos

They will be a big help. Thinking about the figures you are seeing... 100kPa is atmospheric pressure, so you should see this at full throttle... the thing to remember is that the MJLJ map sensor is absolute... so 100kPa on this would read 0inHg on my vacuum gauge. I'll hook up my gauge tomorrow and ...

Got the pictures

They will help me a huge amount. Which vacuum take off point are you using? I'm getting a bit confused with the figures now... I'll hook up a vacuum gauge to my 2.1's 38DGAS and see what I get tomorrow.

Looking at those maps

surely "152" is WOT (e.g. 100kPa ish.)as this is where the advance is less, and "0" is fully closed throttle 20kPa ish.) and the advance is cranked up like the vacuum advance capsule would do on a standard dizzy. Can someone confirm this? I'll email Matt Dearden to see if he can help us. Edited: Got...

Thanks for the reply

I'm using the proper case etc. You couldn't e mail me a photo of the crank sensor location and bracket? [email protected].fsnet.co.uk I have a "spare" engine to work it all out on... how did you mount the trigger wheel? I have a sierra CVH one that I was going to weld to the front pulley. I have thos...

What MAP are you using?

I am having great difficulty finding a starter map for my pinto powered Capri that uses a MAP sensor... all the ignition maps I have found so far are TPS... I'd be interested to know how you get on, as I am going MJLJ very soon... just awaiting parts now...

Thanks

I've asked our electronics guys at work and they said the same... as the pulley is constant... i.e. solid (no teeth), it'll not alter the readings of the VR sensor...

Sierra trigger wheel mounting and VR sensor

I have a Sierra CVH cast timing wheel which I am going to fit to the botton pulley of a 2 litre Ford SOHC (Pinto) pulley. My question is this: The timing wheel is only 5mm bigger than the pulley, so basically the "teeth" only protrude by 2.5 to 3mm from the pulley. Will the VR sensor be affected by ...

Sierra 1.8 CVH front pulley

As title. I have the bottom pulley off said vehicle with 36 -1 trigger wheel attached... I need to get the trigger wheel removed from the pulley so I can attach it to my front pulley... any ideas as to how to get it off? tried a puller, but it won't fit. My next idea was to take it to a machine shop...

I have a few Maps

the engine is a Ford Pinto 2 litre. I have various maps which all have figures ranging from 0 to 152 etc. in the map bins. I take it that WOT on a TPS is 0 and 152 would be fully closed throttle? Looking at the advance figures, I'm not so sure. Can I simply change the TPS numbers... i.e. 0 to 152 to...

TPS and MAP figures

If a map has been created with figures for a TPS in the map bins, is it safe to use it on a system running with a map sensor. I take it the figres entered in the map bins for a map sensor are in kPa, so this leads me to beleive that maps written around a TPS will not be suitable. can anyone confirm ...

Conversion between inHg on gauge and kPa on MAP sensor

I think this is in the correct forum. Forgive me if it isn't. What I'm trying to do is produce a starter 3d map from my distributor curve. The thing that has given me a headache is transposing the vacuum figures given by my gauge to the kPa figures that the map sensor will reference. I think I have ...

I got an MPX4250AP f.o.c.

I got an MPX4250AP f.o.c. from Freescale, but I had to go through work to get it as a sample. They asked quite a few questions too... may try and get another one at a later date, but they end to be close to £20 in the UK...IF you can find one... I was also very lucky to be able to get 2 of the Mole...

I run a similar spec engine

I run a similar spec engine in my Capri and will be going Megajolt later in the year... does yours run with a Throttle Position Sensor or MAP sensor? I'm currently running a stage 3 head with a 285 cam and a 38DGAS with a standard distributor and I'm getting 160BHP (flywheel) Hoping that the Magajol...
