Mainly crank and rod bearings (not sure if they're shared with the later FI 1.3 motors or not). My 1.3 pistons are still in top shape, so I'll just have a 1.1 block bored out for them if I can't hone out the ridge in the 1.3 block without damaging it. That's really the only thing holding me back, as...

Still have it, slowly trying to rebuild the 1.3, but it's tough to find parts over here. It's all from the early Mk1 Golfs too, rocker fingers and low compression...so it's not even easy to find it across the pond :(. The crank adapter I made has a pilot hole in the center, so I can keep using the a...

The manual valve body is the key, it means I control the shift. Now, it's basically a three speed manual, except I don't have to clutch in or lift anymore :D. When I move the shifter from 1-2-3, the shift is instantaneous. :D To be honest, I've been so bored with VWs for a while, I was tempted to se...

Still haven't gotten around to sorting out the timing issues, been distracted by the gearbox project. As it turns out, the early 010 VW automatic is CAKE to mod, and I've got a nice manual VB in it now too. 5 clutches forward drum, 5 clutches direct drum, kevlar band, chromoly pump drive, and manual...

Well considering the build yourself kits were under $90 it is a fair bit more money, when im not getting anything different. I know its fully built but for 30 mins worth of soldering im paying an extra $70... You may not be getting anything different in function, but you're getting upgraded compone...

Well thats put a spanner in the works as it means it is no longer cheap to convert to magajolt. I will have to re-think things. If there is by anychance and old build yourself kits left over please let me know. I don't think $161.95 (USD) is very expensive for a fully assembled unit. It's been the ...

So instead of taking off the timing belt and resetting/checking everything...I've been building a new gearbox for the car. I love the feeling of a hard-shifting automatic, so decided to build one for myself. I've modded the forward drum/clutchpack to hold 5 clutches (vs. the stock 4), and will be sh...

Had a bit of playtime yesterday and decided to hack up a cheap adjustable timing light for parts to fix my good one that died. It was a successful operation...which lead me to discover something isn't right :(. The TDC mark on my flywheel does not line up with the right point when the engine is at T...

To much fun, to be honest  . I really need to focus on one setup and stick with it. It's more about the challenge than it is a genuine desire to switch engines. I seem to have 'management A.D.D', since I've jumped from standalone EFI (numerous types) to carb, to stock EFI (hacked), and back to ...

I've taken the car out for a few spirited drives (only to the speed limit ;) ), and the ham-fisted soldering job I ended up doing when installing my hard-cut limiter apparently worked out fine...because everything works great! I haven't tested the limiter yet (mainly because the car isn't insured, a...

I don't mind sharing, although it's not really a 'perfect' map. I was averaging 30+ US MPG, and hit 105whp/119tq with a mild cam, stock dual downpipe, and 1.5" exhaust (dynoed with 94 octane, which is 98 octane overseas). It's a 10:1 1.8, and the thought of building a 2.0 has crossed my mind qu...

The car is back to carbs, and it's got a brand-new hard-cut limiter board too :D. Fired it up last night...or more accurately, after thirty minutes of troubleshooting reversed coilpack wires (doh), it burst into life. I forgot how loud this thing is, and now I've added a 4-1 header and 2.25" ex...

North America never got the Mondeo, but we had a version of it that was badged as a Ford Contour or Mercury Mystique (IIRC). It had the 2.0 Zetec, although it was a very forgettable car, and usually scrapped at first chance.
