Firmware reflash problems

Post by Alex de Vries »

Hi,

I made a failure, trying to upgrade a V3 HW config with V4 firmware.
Then I reflashed the pic processor to V3 firmware again.
But now it will not operate correctly anymore.
With mjdiag, it returned some map values and ended saying something like unexpected values returned ....
I had some spare processors.
So I could replace the processor and my megajolt worked again (but with V2 firmware).

Is there a possibility to flash the 68HC processor to an empty state and then flash it to a desired version ?
Any other advise is, of coarse welcome too.

Thanks and kind regards,
Alex de Vries

Hello,

The V4 firmware is not compatible with the V3 hardware. We recommend you re-flash with the latest 3.2.1 firmware using the hc08sprg.exe bootloader programming tool. These files can be found here:

Brent,

thanks for your answer.
But is there a possibility to flash the 68HC processor to an empty state and then flash it to a desired version ?
Then I can reuse the "old" processor again.

With kind regards,
Alex

Hello,

As I understand, your goal is to restore the existing firmware on your MJLJ processor, correct?

If so, you should have the bootloader already on the chip. The bootloader is a small piece of firmware on the chip that assists loading the *main* MJLJ firmware.

If your chip previously had the MJLJ firmware, you should be able to restore using the instructions linked below. Consequently, there is no need to make the chip blank, as the bootloader can not be erased under normal conditions.

So, these instructions should work for you to restore your firmware image:
http://www.autosportlabs.net/MJLJ_Firmware_update

Important: Do not mix and match V2 / V3 / V4 firmware;
If you have V2 hardware, you need the latest V2 firmware.
if you have V3 hardware, you need the latest V3 firmware
if you have V4 hardware, you need the latest V4 firmware.

The respective firmware can be found in the respective download sections, here:

Please try restoring the firmware using the above instructions and let us know what your results are.
