Megajolt software freezing

Post by damunk »

Occasionally (random) whilst driving and everything seems to be okay. I look over to the laptop and the software has crashed. i.e Froze

It is all frozen and I have to press close X, then "end program" through windows and restart it.

I got a netbook with windows xp on it using the usb r232 adaptor.

Usually on my computer I can set the USB settings through device manager. Bits per sec etc.
But on this netbook I can't see much to tinker with in the device manager.

Edit: Just checked and found settings. My settings are as follows;

bits per second = 921600
data bits = 8
parity = none
stop bits = 1
flow control = none

advanced settings

Com 7
Receive bytes = 4096
Transmit bytes = 4096

Latency (msec) = 16

Min read timeout = 0
Min write timeout = 0

Serial enumerator is ticked. Everything else unticked. i.e serial printer, rts etc

I set Latency from 16 to 4 and no hangs as of yet. (USB port settings)
Will keep you informed of the updates.

thanks

Often when the app has problems it is one or two things:

1) USB driver issue, causing a communications hang or other problem
2) display drivers are out of date. the app uses OpenGL for doing the 3D map, and sometimes an older driver has problem rending.

Thanks, and please do keep us posted.

It appears as the laptop is wobbling when driving the USB cable bends down and causes a cut out because of looseness.

I need to sort this out by jamming some electrical tape in the usb socket to hold it stiff.
