RaceCapture Garmin Virb Ultra 30 triggering supported?

Post by GTIspirit »

I asked in the RaceCapture/Track GoPro triggering supported?, I think this deserves a separate thread.

The reason this deserves a separate thread is it sounds like the Garmin Virb Ultra 30 is every bit as good as a GoPro Hero5 Black.

Plus the Garmin has the ability to interface with Elm OBDII dongles and get that data embedded into the video.

So for now let's start with triggering, here's the link to Garmin developer API:
VIRB Network Services API

I'm thinking that since VIRB Ultra 30 supports OBDII data, it should theoretically be possible to WiFi or Bluetooth stream CAN data from RaceCapture to the Garmin and get the data embedded into the video.

Unfortunately since I was early adopter of the RCPro Mk1 I don't have any Lua script memory left :( Might have to change to regular (not variable rate) to make room for the Lua Script API.

Doh, except Mk1 doesn't have WiFi, only Bluetooth via the adapter :(

I don't see anything in this doc that mentions OBDII.

It talks about Local sensors, and ANT+ sensors, but nothing about support OBD PIDs.

I noticed, the date on that .pdf is 2015, which is before the VIRB Ultra 30 came out.

So either there is no API related to Bluetooth OBDII, or more likely, they haven't released updated API access info.

Still, the camera controls should work via RCPro WiFi :D

Still trying to figure this out. I found this helpful overview, just not sure how to make this work in Lua Script with our available commands.
