MK2 vs MK3

Post by radixms »

There is a comparison page for the latest 3 units, is there a good comparison between MK2 and MK3?

I do not see much to justify upgrading.

While we would be happy to sell you a MK3 system, your MK2 system will serve you for a long time, and we are committed to long term firmware support. You should definitely keep using it if it makes sense to you!

Here's a list of the key differences. Lots of hardware improvements we've learned from the MK2 days:

-----------------------------

In a nutshell, how is RaceCapture/Pro MK3 different than MK2?

MK3: standard on-board Bluetooth and WiFi - improves ruggedization and compactness. (connect up to 3 devices simultaneously)
MK3: 50Hz WiFi update rate vs 10Hz WiFi in MK2 (improves responsiveness in app dashboard)
MK3: Worldwide-capable 3.5G cellular option. Roof mount antenna included.
MK3: vibration-resistant locking molex connector - improves ruggedization
MK3: Included wiring harness (12” flying leads)
MK3: Improved power supply ruggedization with expanded input voltage range
MK3: Improved 5v Vref sensor power supply isolation (to protect rest of system from voltage surges)
MK3: Improved front panel indicators (LEDs) with improved labeling
MK3: All connections now on back-side of system
MK3: +1 analog input (8 external analog channels + 1 battery channel)
MK3: +1 RPM/Pulse input (4 RPM / frequency inputs total)
MK3: Adds software controlled CAN termination (no jumpers or external resistor needed)
MK2: The quad analog/digital outputs have been removed
Slightly different dimensions:
MK3: 120 x 136 x 35mm (4.72 x 5.35 x 1.38in)
MK2: 135 x 110 x 31mm (5.3 x 4.2 x 1.2in)
Black anodized enclosure with integrated flanges

Hope this helps!
