USB as backup power during pitstops?

Post by Sideways »

Our 12v power to RCP is routed through our kill switch. Which is required to be OFF for fueling. Do y'all thing I will create problems if I setup a USB battery pack to supply power via USB to RCP during pitstops?

A problem with what? the RCP or your sanctioning body? i'll assume the latter because it's certainly doable. If your RCP is out of sight and any dash you use goes blank with master off, who would know the difference? However, I don't think that's an area (safety) where you should seek forgiveness after, rather than getting permission first. talk to the tech officials and get their opinion so you don't have an issue when your running up front.

IMO using this approach is analogous to having a powered-on go pro, tablet, phone or other battery powered device in the car. I've never heard of sanctioning bodies requiring these to be turned off during pit stops. Hope that perspective helps.

YES THIS is exactly what I"m wanting to do. Not worried about the event organizers.. just want to avoid the reboot. Thank you!
