Unable to Join Network

Post by anastos »

I have not been able to use telemetry the last few days.
It was working well, then on 9/25/2017 it worked only a little.
Yesterday and today not working at all.
System Status - cellular Status = 4, Signal Strength = 99, IMEI & Phone Numbers correct, Network Status = Registered.
System Status - Telemetry = either Failed to connect to server, or Unable to join network, most of the times I checked it was Unable to join network.

Help please,
I'm at SCCA Runoffs would really like to have telemetry
Thanks,
Anastos

Hi,

It sounds like you might have a marginal signal, for some reason. Are you using AT&T or T-Mobile?

Can you post a RaceCapture Log? https://wiki.autosportlabs.com/RaceCapt ... apture_Log

This will show the activity of what is going on behind the scenes.

Hi,

Looks like you RCP log ends after this:

Code: Select all

[cell] Loading driver for UBlox Sara U2
tracks: found 1505673639
[lapstats] Auto-detected track from db 1505673639
Logging started
fileWriter.c: Start
fileWriter.c: Opening log file
fileWriter.c: Opened rc_0.log
[cell] Network registered
[sara_u280] GPRS Attached: yes
[sara_u280] Connected to GPRS: False
[sara_u280] Enabling CHAP auth b/c APN password is not empty
[cell] IP address: "10.43.131.222"
The most important part comes after this. Can you post a more extended log, with messages after this?

From the error code it looks like AT&T is not allowing a data connection. That's the best that we can tell at the moment.

How strong is the AT&T signal on site , based on the number of bars showing on an AT&T phone?

In the RCP Application, under System Status the signal strength is 99. Doesn't that indicate a good cellular signal?
Thanks,

Unfortunately, we have a bug in the firmware where we read the cellular strength *before* the module gets on the network; it reports the default value of 99. We hope to have that fixed in the next firmware release.

Assuming your antenna is connected securely and the cable is not damaged, the only other thing is that the carrier is not allowing the network connection. Trying a different SIM card from the same or different carrier (TMO) might shed some light.

Is this a MK2 or MK3?
What version of firmware are you on?
What APN did you select for AT&T?
What type of AT&T plan are you using? Is it a tablet data plan, or a phone plan?

We learned recently that the phone plans have not been working; people are needing to use a tablet data plan for proper connectivity.

We'll watch for replies. Thanks for working through it with us.
