Windows 10 USB Connection Problems

I am having trouble getting my RaceCapture app on my Windows 10 laptop to open communications with the /Track Mk2.

When I plug the usb into my laptop, windows recognizes the /Track Mk2 and then sets it up as COM4. When I open the RaceCapture app, it searches COM4 and says "Error Loading Configuration. Please Check Connection" and then forever cycles looking at COM4.

I have tried 2 different laptops, 2 different cables, disabled bluetooth and disabled anything that I could find that resembled a COM port.

Any suggestions?

Thanks all,
-- Steve

Hi Steve,

Thanks for posting. Some questions to help diagnose:

* As a comparison, are you able to connect via a mobile device via Bluetooth or WiFi on Android or iOS?
* Did you update firmware on the unit recently?
* Do you see any blinking LEDs on the unit (green / blue)

Thanks, let us know and we'll get you sorted out.

* Did you update firmware on the unit recently? Last I checked, it was running 2.13.5. I was going to check for updates when I got it hooked up. Couldn't see how to do it via iOS.
* Do you see any blinking LEDs on the unit (green / blue) It was blinking green and blue, when I hook it up, it lights red for a moment, and then back to the green/blue alternating.

Thanks, let us know and we'll get you sorted out.
Brent,

Thanks for getting back to me, I appreciate it. Answers in your quote. I'm going to try deleting the driver and reinstalling it. Also will try running the application in Compatibility mode as well as trying windows safe mode. Should be able to try that today.

Thanks Steve.

Important to note : With Windows 10 you should not need the driver at all, WIndows 10 works right out of the box with RaceCapture's USB.

Installing our WIndows 7/8 driver might actually cause problems.

Thanks,

Ok, so I think I'm more confused now.

I deleted the device and started fresh:

First round - Window pops up stating "Setting up a new device: RaceCapture", then "Device is Ready: USB Serial Device (COM4) is set and ready to go" Open RaceCapture, it sees the device, goes to "Reading Configuration" and then "Error reading configuration. Check your connection".

Second round - Removed and reinserted USB into a different port. This time it didn't say RaceCapture as the device and tried to set it up as COM5. Plugged it back into the first USB port, Device Properties said "The device cannot start (Code 10) {Operation Failed} The requested operation was unsuccessful

Third round - Uninstalled drivers, rebooted, power cycled racecapture, this time it didn't show up in Ports, but in USB controllers as "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed).

Few other attempts ended up in one of the 3 categories. I'm stumped. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Thank you for the reply.

Really odd with the connection errors, and good to know that bluetooth works.

Since you're an apple user, do you by chance have an OSX machine to test it with? You can download the RC app for OSX to give it a test. This would be just for diagnostic purposes, to help isolate the issue.

Thanks,

Thanks for the help Brent. I'll see if I can get my hands on a mac. Would it still connect via USB or bluetooth/wifi?

It would be over USB. Bluetooth is for Android only; WiFi is for Android and iOS only.

Thanks again; Let us know what you find out.
