TESTING SPECS FOR SAW & PIP!!

Post by o07wray »

The WIKI stuff has no diagnostic for issues with PIP & SAW info .. I was having problems with the EDIS unit and needed to know what the WAVEFORM I should see at each,, Brent tried to help but never directly answered the question,, so I went about searching and found this page with the info.. Its a site selling O-scopes for a silly price.. but they gave a expected wave form and signal processing by the EDIS. Quite informative!

Here is the LINK: https://www.picoauto.com/library/automo ... w-signals/

I have a older O-scope and some electronic background.. and determined the POS aftermarket EDIS I got was the problem all along!! Its "missing window comparator" would allow only one !! Then it would go into LOS ( limp home mode) with 10deg advance locked in and would stay in the state till a power cycle!

In the NOISY environment of a automobile this noise tolerance is stupid and without a factory ECU to help fill those "missing windows" this EDIS would fail in seconds and go into LOS!!!

MORAL OF STORY: Go with STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS EDIS!! the CHEAP knock off is trash. (MasterPro Ignition PN# 2-7128). avoid the MASTER PRO!!!

The wiki does have stuff for verifying signals.

It is here: https://wiki.autosportlabs.com/MJLJ_V4_ ... tion_Steps

beg to differ with you.. wiki info is a description of what a multi meter readings would be.. very basic.. not a O scope of a actual live signal or descriptions of Freq, time base, ect. And in my case a missing window comparator on the SAW signal would only be visible with a O-scope. A VISUAL PIC of the expected waveform is a TON of help also!!!

Not trying to blame anyone.. but if I had this info I found on the EDIS unit, its waveform requirements, I would of never had to buy a 2nd MegaJolt unit.. my was fine.. it was the JUNK EDIS unit I bought. I informed you I had a O-scope, and the Tech background to test signals, and got your form letter referring to the wiki, like this one.. your WIKI needs to be updated with more details & info for proper diagnostics..
