Suitable TPS

Post by Dhutch »

Am i correct in saying the Throttle position sensor is basicaly just a potentiometer, and there for aussuming its calibrated 0-100 for the range ot throttle movments (which is has to be anyway) you can use basicaly any one you like from basicaly anywhere you like?
- Ie, go to a breakers yard and pick the first one that looks like its a fairly need package/configuation. Take the plug as well, and sling it on the side of the carbs.

Or should i be looking to be more selective in my TPS choice? After half an hours looking im stuggling to anything about this on the website or forum.

I wanted one to fit onto a Weber 32/36 DGV carb - went to a decent scrappy and got one from a Ford Escort/Orion (I think).

Generally they are very similar - a screw slot each side of the round body - but the biggest issue will be the hole in the middle, which is linked to the throttle and moves the pot wiper. This didn't bother me as I was making the linkage anyway.

If you get fed up of searching, or fancy a new one, then www.triggerwheels.com sell this one (£29.99 though!)

It does look fairly 'universal' though, which could be very useful.

Sounds good to me.
- I will also be making an attachment method, although clearly the simpler the part i have to make is the better.

Mounting to a pair of dellorto DHLA 40's

The advantage of the triggerwheels one is that it can be mounted either way around, to suit the throttle spindle rotation - the one I had was one-sided, but fortunately it was the right side! :D

Ah, valid point! Most feature a blind hole as you say.
- Are they internally spring loaded then, so as not to beable to run in reverse?

For compleatness, i have now sourced a TPS and although i havent fitted it it seams good.
- Its a Bosch unit from a Vauxhall Cavalier and although i did check it operates the right way for me, it doesnt have a spring or anything like that inside itself, and there for seams equally able to run in either direction (they are, at the end of day, just a potentiometer). So i just need to make sure i set it up so that the center point voltage (TPS input) increases with throtle opening.
