usb driver help

i bought a usb adapter from the autosport labs shop, when i plug it in and try to install the driver with the cd in it keeps saying, windows was not able to install your usb2.0-serial.

i have a dell studio laptop with windows vista

Hello,

Sorry you're having problems.



Before running the setup, please unplug the USB-Serial adapter from your laptop, then install the driver.

Make sure you are using the "R340" driver on the driver CD.

After installing the driver, reboot your machine if it asks you to.

Then, you should plug in the adapter. It should show up in windows device manager as a device under "Ports".

Note, the adapter currently in our store does not work with Windows 7.

i followed your instructions and got the driver installed but have problems connecting to the ecu. it just says could not open port. i will try and upload a video tomorrow of what it is doing.

Hi John,

What port does Device Manager say the USB to Serial adapter is assigned to? You need to make sure the configuration software matches this port. For example, if Device Manager says COM8, set the software to use COM8.

i tried that it says com20.

Ok. What you'll want to do is go into Windows Device Manager, and under that "COM 20" change it to something sane, like com 10 or similar. The configuration software is set to only let you select a certain range of COM ports.

i tried that and set it to com2 then went out to the car and plugged the usb adapter in and it said usb malfunction. i couldn't get it to work so i tried a usb adapter i got off ebay a few months ago and i got it working at last 8)

COM 2 might already be used by your computer's modem- so a higher com, between say COM 5 and COM 20 should work.

In any case, glad you got it working!
