Autox Today!

Post by boggie1688 »

Well after a month or so of tinkering, the Autox is here!

Fingers crossed that it all comes together! Hopefully I have some footage and datalogs to play with after.

A few things didn't work as planned.

1. I didn't have time to grab the start stop coordinates accurately. We were understaffed for the setup in the morning, and ran long.
2. My gopro was no automatically recording, although it powered up and configured correctly. I think I narrowed the problem down in the script.
3. The steering angle sensor is too slow. :(
4. The number of datalogs created made it difficult to hunt down the run information. I might consider using a button mounted inside the car to enable logging or alternatively put the sd card in while on grid and take it out after.
5. There are some work around that are needed to get racerender working. It looks like they support the RCP format, but it doesn't like the CSV file that openoffice makes. After saving the file, I had to open it with notepad, delete the first line of data and save it.

Here's a small clip of one of the runs:

I am glad you got it working. I was able to get the start/stop co-ordinates but they seem to act funky sometimes, still nowhere close to the functionality of SoloStorm which I believe is possible using RaceCapture.

What did you use for your steering angle sensor? I am looking to install one as well on my Miata.

I agree that taking sd card in and out is a pain, I wish that I can just plug in the laptop (via USB or wifi or bluetooth) and access all the files in sd card. One of these days, I am going to lose that card if I continue taking it out. From my days of using racechrono, everything from my phone would automatically get synced to dropbox as soon I would have wifi and make data analysis very easy.

By the way, here is my video with the data. Also, are you sure your accelerometer is recording right? 0.7g max lateral does not sound right.
