Knock Sensor

Post by Richie_Rich »

I'v been thinking on playing around with the Megajolt Lite Jr and hope to do some junkyard shopping in the near future to gather parts.

On the original webpage, it talks about being able to wok with a knock sensor.
Since I have a turbo charged engine, I feel this is very important.

I didn't see where the knock sensor connection is discussed.

Should I grap a knocksensor when I scrouge for parts?
If so, where does it connect?

Thanks,

Rich

The MJLJ doesn't support a knock sensor.. You might want to look into the Saab APC system- it's a stand alone system that regulates boost based on level of knock detection.

It sort of achieves what you want- in a different way.

Also - I'm running boost as well- about 1 bar right now. I have my ignition timing set fairly conservative right now.

For the MJLJ to support a knock input, I'd have to decide whether to support a analog input or a binary input- and then determine how to pull the timing back once knock is detected.

Also- what knock detection systems exist that can provide this type of output?

I'm no software guy but it seems that something like http://www3.sympatico.ca/borism/ should work as an input. something like retard advance 2 degrees per knock event and then restore advance in 2 dgree steps if no knock event in a specified period of time.
