Numpty V2 dual map option switch

Post by robocog »

Hi, I would like to try out dual maps on my v2 board
Looking at the site it looks like there may be schematic about to be put under the upgrade instructions and I was going to hold back till it had been written
----------------------------------- QUOTE --------------------------------
2.x MJLJ controller
Add pull up resistor between +5v side of 2n3905 to unused pin on molex connector (Option port on V3.x board) and add jumper to processor pin
Switch between ground and open circuit
add schematic here*
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is there a definitive numpty guide somewhere for the resistor value in question and what pin on the processor ?
I'm still a bit confused despite reading the above for weeks (OK so I'm a bit thick!)

+5v side of 2n3905 --resistor?--unused molex pin---- |switch (map1)
processor pin ? -------------------unused molex pin-----| switch common
gnd --------------------------------unused molex pin-----|switch (map2)
Which seems wrong when it states switch between gnd and open circuit??

Confused!

Any help in getting dual maps sorted would be greatfully received

Regards
Rob

Ok, I lied. :) I had other things scheduled that took up too much time. :(

I will post pictures of a modified V2.x board and post them to the wiki. However, the point of the modification is to have the external switch ground the input pin. The parts of the documentation describing the pull up resistor (likely a 1K resistor) will keep the voltage 'high' when the switch is open. This way, only one wire needs to be run to the switch; the other side of the switch is grounded.

So:

1. switch 'open'. Map 2 selected.
2. switch 'closed'. Map 1 selected.

A schematic and an illustration of the board modifications will certainly help. I will need a couple of days to document it.

Keep an eye on this thread and I will post an update when it's ready!

I will keep an eye on the page..

I have a "Dyno shootout" booked for next week and have a switch and a mixed bag of components at the ready ;-)
I really want to beat the chaps still on clockwork dissys....no pressure though :-)

Nobody can say we're not giving V2 users any love. :)

Please, let us know how it works out- would love the feedback!

All good mate , thank you very much!!!

Great instructions and this numpty managed it without touching the wrong end of the soldering iron even once :-)

Dual config works great so can switch between maps at the touch of a button
The only query I have is I THINK the dialog box that prompts for reading the map is back to front..
I managed to overwrite my original map by mistake with the second map I wanted to put on

Will go out there again in a bit to check on what the dialog box asks compared to what the message in the bottom left corner says , once the laptop has some more charge, as it could easily be me misreading in the scorching sun out there

I also fancy setting up another LED on the case to let me know which map it is using - but I can use one of the unused outputs and set it to show at tickover or something

Thanks for doing this at such short notice, it is VERY appreciated this end :-)

Will post my dyno shootout of the two maps if they allow me to flick the switch :-)

Thanks once again
Regards
Rob

Edited to say , nope its my problem with the dialog boxes, all works 100% as it should
Think I must have fried my brain in the sun and missread it and just went on a click happy mission overwriting my config

Going off for a spin to test the maps back to back ;-)

Rob

Cool! have the dyno people flip the switch for you. Be sure to have the config software on 'auto load' and then show the 3D tuning view. it should illicit a bunch of 'ooohs and ahhhs'. :)

Let us know how your session goes!
