which coil?

Post by Dimbit »

I'm a little confused. The wiring diagram http://www.autosportlabs.net/images/5/5 ... arness.png doesn't seem to match my coilpack. That is to say if coil A fires 1&4, and the wire going into the coilpack nearest the 1&4 posts is for coil A, then is the connector the right way round?
What I'm seeing is more like this: http://www.cate1.co.uk/megajolt/pics/wiring.gif

Which posts on the coilpack does the wire for "coil A" connect nearest to?? Is there a contradiction here or have I got a weird coilpack? Am I being stupid?
I don't want to be firing the wrong cylinders...

While I'm at it, is the polarity of the VR sensor documented? Anyone got written down which pin is + looking at the back of the sensor? If not I'll take a picture and make a note when I find out the hard way...

thanks,
Tim B

hi, using my own coil pack, the image from www.cate1.co.uk is incorrect. the plug only goes on the coil pack on way, and the pin for the CoilA is plainly labelled "1" on the face of the plug where the wires go in. even if there is something different about what you have, all you have to do is make sure that the wire coming from EDIS for CoilA, goes into the side of the coil pack which in turn fires cylinder 1 & 4. looked at like that, it doesnt matter how they are labelled; as long as your CoilA wire, goes to the pack firing 1&4, it will be correct.

in any case, there are only two ways to wire it (assuming you have the +ve on right pin), and i would think you would really know about it if you were firing charged cylinders with low compression and the exhaust valve open! i think you might get some serious firing down the exhaust pipe, as an offhand guess...

That's what I was worried about! I thought I'd ask to make sure I wasn't going to ignite on the inlet stroke and blow by butterflies away...
My plug is plainly labelled the opposite way to the one in the autosport labs drawing (looking into the mating face of the plug that is. Maybe that was my mistake?)

Thanks for that. I'll wire "coil A" to posts 1,4 then.
