regarding fine tuning ignition with afr loging

Post by alfa boxer »

My questin,
When a pair of carbs are jetted correctly and balanced etc and a ignition map is somewhere near-is it just a case of adjusting the cells where it may show either lean or rich to acheive the correct map, as ive noticed that by adding more timing this has the effect of leaning the engine out and vice versa. comments welcome Lee

assuming the engines fueeling is setup correctly then the leaning out when adjusting the timing will be due to it producing a more efficient burn. your not trying to adjust the timing to get the mixture right though. but it is a useful tool, for example, if your leaning out under full load, you may either not have enough advance to produce max power OR your too advanced and its the beginings of Pinking.

to fine tune, you need to be on a rolling road, where fueling and timing can be adjusted at the same time for maximum power on torque and drivability.
