Big Block Chevy ???

Post by guysmontess »

I am in the early planning stages of rebuilding my 0.060 over Mark IV 454 in the next 3 years or so.If all goes as I am hoping,I will be building a 4.375 in. stroke 511 cubic inch stroker motor.AFR 335 Magnum heads,custom solid roller cam,high compression with a water/methanol injection system,gas ported pistons and a vacuum pump are all on the want list.I also would like to do away with the distributor ignition system and use this;

Getting the crank trigger kit seems like an easy thing to do,several aftermarket vendors make them,like this one from Moroso;

But what about the other parts needed,such as the coil pack and the Ford EDIS module ???
Are those peices available from Ford ???
Would the factory tach in my 1986 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS still work ???
What do I do to replace the distributor and still operate the oil pump ???
What do these statements mean ???
"3D ignition mapping: 10x10 ignition advance grid with full linear interpolation smoothing between cells
Dual, on-the-fly switchable ignition configuration
Analog auxiliary input to further adjust ignition advance"
Thanks
Guy

Hi Guy,

Sorry for the late reply.

Best bet is to look at the installation guide here: http://www.autosportlabs.net/MJLJ_V4_ve ... tion_guide

right at the top it outlines all of the additional parts you'll need to complete the installation. Namely, the EDIS-8 module, coil packs and sensor.

the statement on the ignition map means that the ignition timing is fully adjustable by you - it's not fixed at the factory. That means you can tune for optimum HP or economy, ideally on a dyno. Other systems have a fixed ignition map you cannot adjust. Also, Megajolt comes with a sane ignition map built in from the factory that works well with many vehicles.
