Post Problems connecting Mj! please help
Gday all,
been having some issues with the mj. its been installed succesfully for a little while now, with almost all the little perks been used! last week i tried to plug in the mj to the laptop to re configure the rev limiter value when the c++ runtime error came up. ive never seen this error before as its never had an issue. upon looking at a few posts on here i have:
-re installed mj software
-cable software
-replaced all serial cables (mj to laptop)
-updated windows software
-restarting in safe mode (useless as it cannot recognise cables connected while in safe mode)
-different laptops with all of the above
im getting to be at my wits end with this as its not working with anything.
if anyone has suggestions please help!
*note it was working perfectly fine before this issue arised*

Hi Scott,

Sorry you're having such problems.

When exactly does the runtime error occur? does the software run without errors before you plug in the Megajolt?

Are you using a USB to serial converter? would you be able to try a different brand converter?

Other than the software, Does the Megajolt control the ignition advance correctly? you can verify this using a timing light and you should be able to observe the timing change with precise incremental steps as you vary RPM. If the Megajolt is not working, the ignition advance will not change, and engine power will seem flat.

You could test it with "Safe mode with networking" - that should allow drivers to load up.

Also, what version of windows are you using?

Thanks,

gday brent

i can load the mj software and open all menus etc, as soon as i plug the cable in to the laptop or from the laptop to the mj it comes up
my next option would be another brand converter but i dont understand how its worked fine on the same brand cable for alot of times before hand?
the car takes off like a scalded cat so i assume there is advance there, i could sit it idle and get the strobe on it while revving it when i get a chance just to double check tho
physically all the running oporations of the mj seems fine but connecting to the computer is the only issue
ill try safe mode with networking tomorrow after work if i have enough time, should that allow me to make changes at all?

thanks for the input

Hi Scott,

Safe mode with networking should allow the USB drivers to operate.

It's hard to explain why it would stop working after it had worked before - typically a software change on the system is responsible for things like that. A different brand USB to serial adapter would be worth trying to help isolate the problem.

Keep us posted,

Great -.- now the car won't drive properly at all
It hesitates at low rpm and you can only crawl in 1st gear
If in neutral you can rev it past the hesitation point just not when your moving

Thoughts? The mj should be working as rpm definitely changes to limp mode when I un plug it

Ok so I put a strobe light on the pully on the motor and while revving the line still stays put on the 9th tooth. Would this indicate it's not advancing at all?

Scott,

It looks like the system is running in limp home mode. Can you identify anything that might've changed since you said it seemed to be working correctly before? Before, you said it was revving and pulling fine.

Can you verify the Megajolt is getting electrical power? is the LED light on?

The unit changes engine rpm when you unplug the mj forcing it to run in limp mode off the escort box so I'm not sure if it's running in limp all the time otherwise the rpm shouldn't change when you unplug it correct?
It wasn't changed at all, I hadn't touched the car since it was working fine the last time...the green led lights up and such so I didn't consider metering the cables as it wouldn't light the led sufficiently if it wasn't 12v

Yes. Did you check that PIP- and SAW-signal are coming through? Are the connector pins in the Edis-connector still pressed down and in contact with the pins of the Edis-module? Do you see load change when you suck on the MAP sensor / move the TPS sensor?
