Hi from the UK/Switzerland

Post by acarrano »

Hi all,

Im new to the whole data logger/telemetry world. Im looking at a way i can give the pit wall live data for my car as I must admit im not the best for looking at the T's&P's. I race Formula Jedi in the UK but live in switzerland.

Im looking at purchasing the new mk2 and installing it into my car over the winter for the 2015 season. As someone who is new to electronics and scripting how easy/hard is this to get going?

All help and advice is welcome.

Cheers

Alex

Hi Alex! To setup basic telemetry (speed, location, acceleration) it's very easy: just 12v power, a SIM card and changing 2 settings via our desktop application. After that you can spend time figuring out the voltage ranges for each sensor you want to hook up. I'd recommend doing this in stages. Basic telemetry is very useful for coaching and analysis, sensors are great for engine longevity during races.

Hey Ryan,

Thanks for the message. I managed to get it started up and logging on GPS before I left for work. I think I will go with the basics that you suggest for the time being. As far as sensors I'm pretty keen to get EGT for each cylinder as I have lost an engine this season through valve failure that could've been detected with them. Just a quick one regards the reference, if I'm running 4 EGT sensors can I group the 4 5v wires together from the logger?

Thanks

Alex

Hi Alex, what do you mean when you say group the 4 5v wires together? If you mean powering all 4 sensors from RCP's 5v reference then yes. If you mean combining the signal wires coming back from the sensors into RCP then no, each needs to be connected to RCP separately.

Hi Ryan,

Yes I was asking regards the 5v power so that answers my question thanks.

Thanks for you're help so far. Really looking forward to getting this all together in my car.

Thanks

Alex
